It's Simply Wicked
As a husband of 13 years and a father of three, life has had it's moments of laughter, despair, hope, sadness, and tragedy. Yet, admist the moments of life, it's one outlook that changes the world. Each day we decide how we plan to navigate the day, and which emotions we are going to use to guide us. As a principal of an elementary school, it is incredibly important for me to choose carefully what each day would bring. I challenge each person to set forth identifying the good in the world. Our favorite musical originally starred Idina Menzel in the hit broadway show, Wicked. What one comes to realize throughout the show, is that there is goodness and wickedness in the world and maybe even in each of us. However, it is what we decide to let shine through that makes the difference.
The title of this blog site is 'Laughing through Life' - a take from Fiyero's song from the show, Dancing through Life. The irony of a principal using this song is certainly not forgotten with the opening lyrics:
'
The trouble with schools is
They always try to teach the wrong lesson
Believe me, I've been kicked out
Of enough of them to know'
Yet, the words certainly read true to me in my own take of this song through the blog 'Laughing Through Life'. Life certainly has it's own stress, challenges, and frustrations. Yet, what would happen if we stop in the moments and find the humor. Perhaps it's at the school talent show when the Emcee asks the little girl what grade she is and she responds, "I'm not in a grade. I'm in kindergarten."
Or perhaps it is the 10 year old who wakes up at 5:15 am just to tell his dad goodbye before he leaves for a business trip for a week. You see when we stop and physically 'digest' the moments of good in the world, the times of evil simply fade away.
I'm committed to bringing laughter in life through this blog. As a principal, father, husband, and active community member I am sure I can find lots of reasons to bring a smile, chuckle, or full on belly laugh to your day.
